Cleaning your face is very important, even when you don’t wear makeup. Because on a daily basis your skin will still collect waste. This could be sweat and oil that your skin produces, dead skin cells, external factors like bacteria and dust in the air, etc. That is why it is important to cleanse your face at the end of the day but also in the morning. If waste isn’t cleansed well from your skin it will get into your pores and will up and clog your pores. And this leads to the famous, annoying face blemish: acne. But also, blackheads and whiteheads. You could of have heard about double cleansing, especially if you have been interested in k-beauty for a while!
How is double cleansing done and why is double cleansing so important?
Double cleansing is very common in k-beauty skincare routines. Double cleansing is done by cleansing the face in two steps with two different kinds of cleansing products. The most famous combination is an oil cleanser as first step and a foam cleanser as second one. The first step draws out the oil-based impurities like sebum, pollutants, and SPF. You might think, “what if my skin type is oily?” Well, using an oil-based cleanser eventually makes skin less oily, so depending on which cleanser you use – if you have oily skin you can still use oil-based cleansers. 😊 The second step cleanses the water-based waste like sweat and dirt. Double cleanse will therefore prevent breakouts.
Is double cleansing really, really needed? Or is it a myth?
Like many situations: it depends. It especially depends on the skin type. But not only the skin type but also the condition of the skin at specific times. And could depend on the impact of the products you use as well, and how much waste is on your skin. If you want to have a bigger chance of clear skin and want to get rid of breakout faster, double cleansing is in fact needed and more effective than only one cleanse. It is recommended to double cleanse both at night before sleeping and also when you wake up in the morning. Why double cleanse in the morning? Well, while sleeping the skin produces sweat and other waste like oil. Plus, it will remove any product that is left over on your skin from the night routine you applied the night before. It is always the best to apply your morning routine products on an as clean as possible skin so the skin can absorb the products better. 😀
But if you feel and notice your skin is doing well and does not break out often. And you also notice your pores aren’t that clogged or your skin is as clear as you wish after one cleanse, then do whatever feels the best for your skin!
