When you really think about it, how animals change their lifestyle, their diet, and their appearance that may change too (for example their fur). We humans do that too but we do not really question ourselves, as many just follow their instincts and sudden desires. Probably the most common thing we notice as weather changes is the number of layers we wear! The use of makeup, colors, styles, or especially how we suddenly want to change our haircut. It is noticed but, we do not really pay attention as to how amazing it is what a change in season makes us do, and how everyone experiences this to some point.
Makeup in Spring 2019, what changes?
Suddenly as spring comes, we want to look fresh, use lighter colors, more use of pink tones, wear thinner layers of makeup, look extra glowing and dewy. All-in-all just as fresh as the poppin’ cherry blossoms, flowers and glowing as much as the shining spring sun.
- Layers of products
Many people tend to wear less layers of makeup on the skin and focus more on skincare. The matte skin trend keeps decreasing and glowy, dewy skin gets more and more popularity. Healthy skin goes above covering up blemishes with lots of layers. Which I personally find a good thing! It’s important to take as good care for your skin as possible. A lot of focus on sunscreen too.
Makeup look trends may differ in various areas of the world, and this skincare focus is popular here in Korea for a very long time already, but this skin trend is pretty much going worldwide and gaining so much more focus this spring.
A good skincare routine and minimal foundation/concealer is key this season! Besides achieving the glowing, dewy skin, it could be enhanced by highlighters and bronzers. Aahh all the shimmery-shimmers~ 💖
Colors we use on our face, especially eyes, cheeks and lips, seems to be lighter and sweeter. More use of pinks, peaches, corals and oranges. Yeah, we turn into flowers basically. Also mixed with the spring colors often glitter is used, especially gold or silver. Besides pink, coral, peach and glitters to be very popular among the spring makeup trends- Natural looking, gleaming, glowing skin, with a hint of pink, peach, coral or orange blush is the way to go too this spring.
And as for the lips.. guess which are the main colors? YES! Pink, peach or coral, and orange-y, there ya go. It’s a lot of colors from the pink to orange range that are put on the eyes, cheeks and lips. Kind of sunset tones.
I bet you heard about the K-beauty trend that was huge here in Korea? The gradient, “bitten” look lips? This spring, that on the side will be quite popular worldwide too, next to bold full red, shiny lips and purple lips that will be popular too.
But let me tell you what else is going to be very popular too! Very plain makeup, like no eye shadows, no mascaras, nor eyeliners too~ and all concentrated on glowing, fresh skin.
- Chica y Chico Spring Eye Makeup Look
Eye makeup is my personal favorite, and for many others too. Probably because it includes many kinds of products on one specific area, like eye shadows, mascara, eyeliners~ it’s fun how you can create such a whole different look just by doing the eyes! To be very honest with you, pink is not my favorite color, but still I find myself buying a LOT of pink things lately!! Probably 90% of what I bought (except most food) lately is pink. Just automatically. Makeup, stationary, skincare packages, clothes, list goes on. 🤷
I love the spring trends of this year! So fresh! I love the added hint of glitters and glowing, dewy stuff! Especially if on the eyes as well.
It’s funny how I look back at my autumn and winter pictures how my eye makeup was all based on brown and red-ish orange eye shadows, and smudgy brown eyeliner. A little while ago, for a short time I only wore skin colored based eye shadow, and sometimes mascara. And if I look at the mirror now it is often pink, peach and gold glitters. I honestly don’t remember thinking like “Okay. Spring starts. Now I am going to use lots of pinks and peaches.” As the season changed, I just changed with it without questioning myself or really being aware LOL do you have that too? It’s pretty common I noticed. It’s really amazing how changes in season plays such a factor.
But enough about that. Let’s look at the breakdown of this eye look that is created on my eyes with the Chica y Chico eye palette!
Chica y Chico Eye Makeup Breakdown
Notice the use of the monochromatic color range and use of glitters? That is the main point in this year’s spring eye makeup trend! 😀
Below in this blog you will find some handy tips and tricks on what ways you could use the Chica y Chico makeup products!!
Korean Vs. Western Spring Makeup Trends 2019 – The Differences
We now come to a time that everything is so globalized that all trends are getting mixed up. For example, some K-beauty trends go to the west, some trends from the west come here to Korea. There is not a lot of differences for the Spring makeup trends 2019.
It’s quite similar!!
You suuuuurely know about all the Matte makeup hypes!! Matte foundation, setting powders, matte fixing sprays, matte lipsticks, etc. And then the luscious full, long lashes, the contouring and the highlighting as well! It just surprises me how this changed in such a short time.
Though I could notice the changes bit by bit, happening on Instagram. More influencers started to use products to make their skin glow and moisturized before applying foundations. To me it seems like as the highlighting and bronzer were always a hit in this matte look people slowly began to focus more on the shimmery and glowing look, extending the highlighted glowing parts to really moisturizing and trying to make the whole face glow. People began to use more glossy lip-glosses instead of matte lipsticks.
People are starting to appreciate natural looks more. And which season is more perfect to start getting into it more other thaaaannnnn S~P~R~I~N~G ~~~ spring. Okay, right. We get it. It’s spring. Enough now.
But really makeup key words this season are glow, glitter, shimmer, natural looks, minimalist, simplistic, monochromatic, and sunset colors.
Let’s look at South-Korea and the Western part of the world,
(US and EU) when looking at general trends (of course this differs per person), and see what the differences are as these differences, especially South-Korea and US were HUGE.
We will also look shortly at general worldwide trends and compare some countries and parts of the world, generalizing the popular makeup trends:
These are all just general comparisons to kind of compare between different regions in the world – every country and people have their own unique beauty image, which is so interesting, just so breathe taking and beautiful!
Europe (especially West Europe) was always kind of in between Korean and US trends. The heavier US makeup trends and the makeup trend in the Middle East are quite similar. And some Asian countries were quite similar, taking over the Korean trends fast. Though some Asian countries were/are in between K-beauty and American style, pointing more towards heavier makeup and contouring like the US trend. If we look at Africa, the south part of Africa is more pointed towards natural skin but eye-catching pops of bright and colorful eye shadows and lipsticks. The North of Africa is more a mix of Europe, Middle East, and Asian trends: all year round, most people focus on natural and bright skin, minimal eye shadow, lipstick in the range of red tones and the on-fleek eyebrow is very popular.
But again this is all generalized, too bad it’s too much to go into detail of all countries of the world haha but it’s so interesting!
To narrow it down for now let’s look at South-Korea and the West (US, and EU). Normally, US and EU countries have quite some differences, but this season, as earlier said, trends are very, very similar).

Chica y Chico – One Shot Eye Palette (Spring edition)
#01 Arrowhead (Yellow & Coral)
#02 Dancing Pink Tribe (Two shades of Pink)
#03 Apricot Dimple (Two apricot shades)
#04 Rose Bonfire (Dark toned red & light peach)
- Use color 2 or 7 as blush (and use together as eyeshadow too and a similar lip color and you will create the monochromic look easily!)
- Use color 1 as an extra pop of highlighter, be a sparkling spring queen!!
- Use colors 3 and 8 as:
– Eyebrow powder (to create a softer eyebrow look)
– Contouring of smaller parts of your face, like the nose!
- Dap colors 1, 4, 6 and 9 on your lip-gloss (create a simple sparkle lip look by applying a small amount, create an extreme look by applying a lot~ all to your liking 😊 Use different colors to mix and create your own unique look easily :D)
- Use colors 5 and 10 with an angled gel eyeliner brush (or any brush you like using to apply eyeshadow as eyeliner), to create a natural “no eyeliner” eyeliner look.
Looking for lots of more glitters and shimmers for a gleaming eye makeup look?
- These palettes have a lot of golden glitters and shades of shimmers, ideal for the spring look!!
- As eye shadow / Monochromatic makeup look
If you want a simple monochromatic makeup look, you can use the blusher as eye shadow!!
What I like to do sometimes is use the lighter color of the eye shadow on the inner half of my eyelids and use the darker shade on the outer half of my eyelid and blend it a little further as a kind of faded out “wing”. If you like a more “out there” colorful look use it on the outer part under your eyes and/or use the lighter color on the inner corner of your eyes (and under the eye, on your eye fat if you want).
Not a lot is needed as the blush is very pigmented and therefore easy to apply for a quick look (well therefore the name of the products haha)
Chica y Chico – One Pick Skinny Cara Mascara (Not available by overseas sellers (yet))
#01 Fixing Volume
With this mascara, you can create either a very simply look (like you don’t even use mascara but still your eyelashes will be enhanced naturally), but as it fixes volume you can add as much layers as you want to make it look kind of clumpy. (Never thought this would be a trend, but it enhances the eye frame, making eyes less in need of eyeliner for example!)
#02 Fixing Curling
Because of a powerful gel layer and the strong curve fix system this mascara can curve your lashes very well. Use the brush or a cotton bud on the upper side of your lasher to curl them upward even more.
The mascara brushes are very thin, therefore it’s hard to mess up your look or the amount of mascara you want! (As this season is either a liiiiiitle bit or even no mascara to clumpy. So therefore, you are in control of the amount – not clumsy looking but clumpy looking! 🤭 🤭 🤭 🤭 (okay I should maybe not laugh at my own silly joke ahaha)
- As the brush is very thin, and you create a clumpy lash look you can dip the tip of the brush A LIIITLE BIT, don’t go overboard, on the outer corner of your eyes (either upper lash line or under lash line or both, (but (again) don’t go overboard and try to make a wing with it lol, well you can always try and be creative but that’s your choice haha I myself wouldn’t suggest it). Keep it near your lash line for a subtle look.
